Yes USA, you’ve done some shitty stuff. But we cannot forget the great things the country has done.
You guys landed on the moon
You guys defeated the Japanese empire
You guys created the atomic bomb
Your country, even under the guidance of Trump, is still a leader in multiculturalism
You have good stuff going on for ya’ll. Nowadays states show their true autonomy by passing sanctuary laws and protecting safe access to some medical practices.
You guys are leaders in medical research
Thanks to stuff like the Marshall Plan, European countries today enjoy great democratic systems and strong institutions.
America is still the country to go to for anything and everything. Given the background, the wealth, and the sheer scale of the US, it is probably a paradise for consumers. Do you need authentic food from an obscure Eastern European nation? You’ll surely find it in America! You want ethnic clothing from the Mongolian empire, also, AMERICA.

My neighbors have been celebrating for about a month already, is it unpatriotic to say I’m over it? 3 am explosions just aren’t my thing.
(Though I guess its a good trade for the wealth of taco stands and Vietnamese restaurants in walking distance)

When are you coming up and doing a tour around America? Come up to NJ and I can get you in an E30 M3 and my lil Mustang.

Funny you say that, I was on the brink of going to High Point, NC for their furniture fesitval (Yes, I’m a fascinating being) but I couldn’t go do to scheduling.
A close friend of mine lives in DC and I wouldn’t mind paying her a visit, which would inmediately free me up for an East coast Oppo meet.
but first I need money, and time to do it!

Yeah, it’s the same here except that it’s for whenever the national team wins.

We’re all into weird shit besides cars, if your thing is furniture so be it.
I’d love to do more Oppo meets and I’d especially like to meet some of our global homies. I was in Euroland for 3 years and met no Opponaughts, back here I’ve been to a meet and have been introduced to a few new clubs.

What I like to say about our quality of life is “you can have almost any quality of life you choose.”
While most people will still choose to be overworked and materialistic, the options are there to work less and enjoy life more . You can get just about anything from anywhere and your money goes further than almost anywhere else. Middle class and higher can usually still afford good healthcare for less than the equivalent taxation in socialized healthcare nations. And despite our litigious nature, your rights are protected fairly well across the board (personal, property, religion, ideas, etc).
Life is never fair, but there are a lot of places where it’s a lot less fair than here. The media does a great job trying to convince us all that everything above is falling apart, but I still don’t see it on a widespread basis.

America got to where it is by not settling. The media does a good job of letting us all know we aren’t quite there yet. Settle if you want, but that’ll be the death of the American dream. I would say upper middle class and higher can get affordable healthcare. If you’re solid middle class, you’re going to have to feign poverty to get affordable healthcare while also paying off your student loans.

I think the media wants to idealize each nation to their best extent. In a sense imagine America, Japan
and Europe are in a 1st division league; the media wants them to be as good as they can be
within the league
, while the judge Africa, Latin America, many parts of Asia, and the Middle East differently because those places don’t have the kind of institutions or rule of law the US has. I think sometimes everyone should be judged to the same standadrd, without turning to whataboutism of course.
Have you ever heard the phrase “
Poor Mexico, so far away from god and so close to the United States”
? It’s us being basically envious of the lives that are lead across the border. People say most of our problems are because of the US, but the simple matter is that
it’s
our problems
, and sure it would be nice if we could help eachother out more often, but that’s the beauty of sovereignty: you guys have guns, we have socialized healthcare: we disagree on things and that should be indicative that we shouldn’t blame each other for what we consider our problems.
The biggest issue with the US is economic mobility, AKA: the American Dream not being possible for millions of people. The US is the best country to live in if you’re wealthy (as you say, it pays off after a certain threshold compared to those socialist scumbags!). Right now you don’t notice anything falling apart because of the great institutions your country has, but the US is already more economically unequal than Mexico and that inequality eventually erodes the institutions, then all of a sudden you have private communities that are guarded by armed personnel and you wonder what happened.
I know it’s a celebratory day, but any day that commemorates a societal feat should be a day that the mere society needs to question if they’re OK or if they need to maybe fix somethings.

To your “not settling” point, I know a family where both parents work for a small employer and healthcare was ridiculous. But thanks to that, there are now multiple nonprofit alternaives to traditional health insurance , one of which they use as an alternative. There will continue to be opportunity as costs go through the roof (our own healthcare costs have eaten up about 30-50% of all salary advancements I’ve seen in the past 5-7 years).
The overall economic mobility and equality picture here has been better, but on other more qualitative stats (outlook, consumer sentiment) we’re in pretty good shape. Having professionally lived through the post-2001 crash and the great recession reminds me how much worse things can be, at least economically speaking.
Social justice is harder to pin down because it’s self-referential. The more ways we have to protest, the better...but the worse it makes things look along the way (similar to how so many parents are afraid their kids will be molested if they play unattended...)
I won’t lie, though, Switzerland still looks pretty awesome if you can afford the cost of enty ;)
